Exclamation

Stuck at home for a couple of days, and really, really wanted to mow the jungle that sprang to life seemingly overnight.... But man, we are being overrun by fireants. Every trip outside with the dog reveals more small mounds.

The point is, be careful with your kids and pets. And buy stock in Amdro!

Windknot. Your room at the Bellview Sanitarium is ready. I've never heard a man use the phrase " really, really" and "mow" in the same sentence.......except Paul James, maybe.

Windknot I think everyone has fireant problems. I to have used Amdro only to find that the ants move out of the mound and start a new one. (yep, saw it with my own eyes) I put Amdro on three mounds and two days later saw them moving to a new mound just a few feet away. I took a can of fire ant killer by RAID!!!! and started spraing, you guess it, just like they say "it kills them dead" I must have killed thousands.

Cool

The trick with Amdro is to start applying it first to the mounds in the center of your yard. As they relocate their mounds further and further away from the center of your yard, don't let up - keep applying. Eventually they will cross your property line and will have relocated to your neighbor's yard. They will come to the realization that they have been living in a free-fire zone and have relocated to a refugee camp in a demilitarized zone and will be happy. Your neighbor on the other hand..........

From The early 80's to the mid 90's I fought fire ants in LaGrange, Ga. A fire ant nest makes new queens all the time. The new queen leaves the nest and flies to mate and after mating she lands and where ever that is she tries to dig a nest. This activity increases after a rain, and also the rain softens the ground and makes the new nest building thing more successful. That is why new nests pop up after a rainy period.
The amdro works pretty good, but sevin dust is cheaper and almost works as well. Just stir the mound a little bit and then put a handful on the mound covering and coating the moving about ants. When they return to the nest other ants "clean" the sevin covered ants and die. There is a bit more migration than using ambro, but sevin is so inexspensive extra treatments do not cost much. Also in using sevin the mounds are highlighted in white so the kids can easily see and avoid the mounds.

Hmmm.........after living all my life in GA with these critters, I've suddenly had the brilliant idea that will get me out of work for the rest of my life. It's called " Owl's Anteater Service ". Got ants? Snickers the anteater will be happy to rid you of em, and have a fine time doing it.

I prefer to soak fire ant mounds with gasoline and put a match to those little ********.

I figure they've caused me enough pain, I like to give them a little payback.

Cool

I like Jah's approach- Napalm! although Starr's approach is a perfectly acceptable tactical solution- get em out of their holes and kill em on the move- sort of a Tora Bora for fireants. Hope their fireant equivalent of OBL doesn't get past your sniper screen, though.

Owlie - LOL! If I hadn't done a bit of warmwater fishing Thursday & Friday mornings, I'd have been ready for the sanitarium! May God bless bluegills, and their frisky, cooperative little hearts!
