Aaron, et al -- I note the Environmental Issues Forum is moderated by Erik. I also note that the latest thread on C&R entitled Catch and Release Again has been closed and locked with several posts criticizing Erik for his snotty remarks eliminated while the earlier C&R thread with several of Erik and Richard's comments criticizing me remains open.

I believe that if you're willing to put in your two cents worth you also need to be willing to take any heat you may generate, right or wrong. Otherwise you ought to keep your mouth shut and lurk rather than getting involved.

And while one of Rod's comments may have stepped a little bit over the line (heh, heh), it seems a bit self-serving to remove all of the comments criticizing Erik.

Since we've removed the comments, maybe, in the sense of fair play, we also need to remove Erik as moderator.

To Erik -- if you can't take the heat, don't build a fire.

I second the motion....As I posted a message to ease a fellow Flyguy and was slammed for mearly trying to tone down a sarcastic comment made by Erik. I understand he is a very educated person in this field, but the title moderator doesn't come with the right to slam other members. Its ok to state your disagreement and opinion, but not to treat other members like the enemy. I and hopefully everybody eles respect's the enviorment for the most part the same as Erik, and yes...maybe we all have small veriations as to certian points, but we all want the same thing in the end....a healthy population trout and the habitat the live in. This can only be done as a team effert... so lets remember that when we post our opinions.

It's a mutiny!

Sorry if some of you guys have taken real offense to some of my posts. I didn't think anyone was taking things so personally, but I have realized that some of my responses could have carried a different tone than they were typed with. As much as I dislike some of the responses posted by others on this board, I truly enjoy responding to them and attempting to share some of the things I have learned over the years. In my future responses, I will take extra caution to prevent overstepping any bounds with regard to my tone of voice, but as Aaron said, I enjoy those heated discussions. Let's keep them, just without the personal attacks.

As for my removal as moderator. If you want to continue impeachment proceedings, go ahead, but please don't censure me. If I couldn't post on this board, I might actually have to analyze data, write papers, and do that other stuff that grad students are responsible for.

P.S. I posted my response under the Environmental Issues Forum before I saw this string.

Thanks T1 and Flyguy for the comments. For the record, I was the one who closed the thread and removed the posts. I did not intentionally remove only certain ones, I just picked the several leading up to Rod's comment and my only reason is becuase I am trying to cater to a larger audience here which includes both kids and adults in some cases - so I made a decision to remove the posts, please, PLEASE don't get me wrong. I REALLY enjoy these heated discussions and I think it is important that we have them (plus they are fun, aren't they) but, I remember last time all the emails I got and would prefer to avoid that situation again.

Personally I think Erik was a little harsh, but, and I hate to generalize, without extremers like him where would we be? Without getting too political - We are not trying to build a utopia here; I will simply say I believe personally that "it takes all kinds of people" to make a community and really isn't that whay our goal is here?
So basically....how about this....
Erik, if you will settle down a little the rest of us won't be so quick to critisize.

Leave Erik alone! (chuckle). Like you guys have never slammed anyone on this board!! Give me a break! Erik, keep up the good work and T continue to the jerk that jerks his and everyone else's chain! I do respect Erik's opinions much more so than someone who doesn't even live in the state! But hey T.......I am all for you expressing your veiws as long as you agree not to move to GA!!!!!

Aaron, et al -- Probably would have been a good idea to preface the removal of those comments with a note. Erik's such a stickler for preciseness that I certainly don't want to falsely accuse him of anything, especially not taking the heat. Perhaps it would have been better just to remove Rod's offensive (heh, heh) remark. There were some pretty good one's that didn't cross the line.

And, I do agree that we need to watch our language with kids looking in.

Gary -- Hate to disillusion you, but I've househunted in north georgia (Clayton) every time I've been up there. And, the problem here wasn't the slamming, it was the removal of the counterslams.

As I've said numerous times, if you can't take the heat, don't light the fire. Erik seems well able to light fires and take heat.

Hey Arron -- How 'bout removing all those posts criticizing me, mostly from Erik, Richard and Gary.

I believe that we are able to put this string of heated events to rest and move on. Erik...I like to read your post as they are very deep and what looks and sounds to be very well researched on your part. I think we all gather alot from your posts, but what some of use took as sarcasim drew away from the real intrest of the post. Maybe thats just the way you come across...I am not sure, but I know from now on I will take what looks to be like a sarcastic post with a couple grains of salt. This memeber would like to say he is sorry for the comments posted and would like to get down to the real environmental issues posted in your section. I also think that you need to make an apperance at one of the NGTO events so alot of use can get to know the real Erik and not just a name. How about it?????

P.S. I bought an Orvis Black Lab calander for my girl friend today. ( Hey...Its a start!!!)

I would like to attend one of the flings, but the previous ones have conflicted with other engagements. I'll make it to one some day though. Maybe Mr. T will show up too, and we can turn it in to some kind of Pay-per-view special.

How about a new local for one of the next flings--a small stream setting. I've talked this over with another member of the board and he thinks it's a good idea. Noontootla or even the new delayed harvest stream, Smith Creek, come to mind.

P.S. If it's any consolation, I don't buy Orvis products any more myself.

Erik -- Don't hesitate. You make a good whipping boy. And frankly, sarcasm doesn't bother me at all.

I'm really glad to find out that it was not you who deleted the messages. I should have guessed it wasn't because you've never backed away from a fight before.

Smith Creek is an outstanding suggestion and there are pavilions nearby which could accomodate the cookout. It's one of my favorite streams. The only problem I see and it may not be a problem is that Smith is small and a large crowd would make it tough. Also, is Smith still a seasonal stream or have they converted it to year-round with the delayed harvest program.

Also, if we do it in that area, Duke's Creek is right around the corner and it might be an opportunity for some of us to try it (even though it is a C$R stream).

Are we talking about the Spring Fling or sooner.

Whatever we do, I've got a full day's drive to get there and I'll probably spend several since it's such a jaunt. Also, I'm still at a point that my fishing is secondary to my business commitments so I'm at the mercy of business circumstances.

If we're talking Spring Fling, March and April are virtually out for me since the Florida legislature's in session and I stay completely trapped during those two months. I can sometimes get away, but I usually don't know far enough in advance to do any real planning.

Pay-per-view, eh. Perhaps you and I could argue and make money in the deal.

Haven't we just turned into one big 'ol fartin' and pickin' famdamily.

It's a good thing. As much as we all like to fish and release and/or eat we can't be that far apart. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone on the 22nd. Unless someone from my family dies or has a stroke again. Death is part of life but it interferes with my fishin'.

BTW erik et al.

sorry I didn't pull the info on mortality rates--been busy---thanks Richard for taking the time.
