I would have to qualify this one as a complete success. Unlike last year when the fishing was pretty slow, this year kids were pulling in fish up and down the bank of Azalea Park. Junior fishermen and their parents were lined up just about elbow to elbow. A good time was had by all.

I would agree that it was a success. I did not see any ears, fingers etc... getting a hooked. There were a bunch of fish caught a couple off trees hooked and even a baby duck was reeled in.
THE EG's kids could have held a fishing clinic. There was even one lone kid with a fly rod. I had fun herding the fish down the runways and scooping out nets full of fish at the Hatchery (My thanks to Bill C. for turning the electric bird zapping fence off). Every kid seemed to have a smile on his or her face. Aaron thanks for the shirt I am sure it would look and fit real nice but my wife has already stolen it. SWF |

A few of us overheard one young boy telling his Dad.." Now, that's the seventh fish I've caught in my whole life!"

Good evaluation by THE EG. There many more fish caught compared to last year, and MANY long distance releases, too. Lots of lines were tight for at least a few seconds. By the way, EG, I suggest re-naming your two boys Hoover & Dirt Devil. It took both of them to carry their stringer. Glad they had fun.
SWF - you lost your shirt too, eh? My daughter-in-law smiled when I showed it to the family and simply said "But dad, it doesn't have a pocket! You know you'll never wear it!" The shirts are way cool, but it does look better on her. Tight lines & happy faces, Don |

BTW,
There were probably a couple hundred fish caught at the KFD. That would leave about 3000 or so still swimming around that area if anybody is interested. FYI, the first set of NGTO T-shirts was handed out to the volunteers at the KFD. From what I understand, more are being ordered for members to purchase. I'd like to thank everybody that helped my kids and all the rest of the kids. These KFD events are a great way to introduce new anglers to the sport. As far as my kids catching alot of fish, Windknot, it's just good genes . Also dad occasionally setting the hook for them. |
