I'm going to be spending next week in the Ellijay area,we have a cabin on the Coosawatee River, are there trout in this river ? If not where would a fellow find a few within 30 mi.I am a novice to trout fishing and plan to use fly and ultralight gear.Any help or tips would be very much appreciated.
Thanks, John |

Noontootla creek is nearby. check the regs though. C&R<16".You probably won't see many others there but there are wild trout there. Fishing can be tough there. But the scenery is well worth the trip.
Amicalola may also be within range. Stop by a fishery office and pick up a Trout Fishing in Georgia map. [This message has been edited by vonchim (edited 05-11-2002).] |

There are no fish in Noontootla! Just kidding- you should be fine with your ultra light gear- it is a tricky place to fly fish. Make sure you clip your treble hooks down to one hook (to conform with regs), and I would suggest you pinch the barb down as well. Good luck!

Yea Noontootla is a great creek to visit. Its mainly a fly fishing only creek but you can use ultralight spinning gear, but i would advise against it, most of the fish in there are small and if u hook them deep it could kill them, plus its artificial lures only, single hook, 16 inch limit one fish per day, but ive never seen anybody keep fish out of there or use spinning tackle, its real tight fishing though, and the trout are wary, so wear camo or dark clothing and use the cover around you to hide yourself. The fish there are very pretty and there are some big fish in there also, give it a try and see how you like it.
