For years I've been searching for the ultimate ultra-light line for my spinning arsenal. I've used Berkley 2-4lb XT and XL for years but lost the fish of a lifetime and became turned off at that point.
In recent times I've switched to Berkley's Premium Strength. While it's tough as hell, it's photocromic nature still spooks trout in crystal clear streams. So, what do I do? I want to steer away from a "floro coated" line as to not get a fiber optic Christmas tree effect! At the same time I don't necessarily want to spool up an entire spool of Frog Hair on my spinning reel either. I need an extremely low visibility, great strength, VERY abrasion resistant, low diameter, TOUGH line! Does this exist? BUT, if you had to choose just 1 line to go to bat with VS. your trout of a life-time....what would you go with? Remember, he'll be a formidable opponent! In additon, I'll need some information on where to purchase this line. Thanks! Looking very forward to your response! Thanks in advance and take good care! |

What about the Power Pro brand of line. I think you can get a clear color and it is VERY strong with a very small diameter. Not really sure if it is what you call a floro coated line or not. You can get 15 lb line strength at 4lb diameter.
Check them out. www.powerpro.com/ ------------------ SlckTrck I sure hope Heaven has a trout stream. |

The best line IMHO on the market is the stren low-vis green. I use it on spinning and baitcasting reels from 6lb on up to 20lb. I havn't gotten into all of the new spider/no stretch lines yet. but for the best all a round mono you can't beat it. trey/cw

crystal clear water........
is always a problem......... fish your fish of a lifetime at night....!!! size up the test...fish it at night or.... time your fishing to right after a rain..... Lots of the superlines have problems with knots..... the firelines are what I would use...very late afternoon or late evening.....put some 6 pound fireline on and throw ? Describe the water........ What kinda minnows are in area...... Give the depth of the water? email me if you think.....you might give away your holes location.... I told one of my buds about a big female brown.......he said he wasn't going to tell anyone........ He drank a couple beers at his parents house......his dad pumped for info....and his dad went at 4 in morning to neighboring stream and caught a chub....cut its tail off.... put 10 pound fireline on...and size 4 eagle claw and reefed the HUGE female out of the hole...... The guy would not tell anyone where he caught it..........his son finally fessed up to me.....I don't tell him diddly now! Sure I could have done the same thing as this oldtimer did....but.......so could 60 percent of the anglers with a rig such as he used..... a_trout_angler@yahoo.com http://www.troutadventures.net/ Len Harris |

Now that I've got your attention *giggle*
Clear cold water 2 1/2 to 5' deep Throwing: Panther Martins (1/32 but of course), 1/80 jigs, cheese worms, etc. Some natural bait if I am forced to. Trout Size Targeted: Rainbow, very pissy, doesn't like me either, 8-12 pounds Maybe can get at them at break of dawn....if I'm lucky and the Corps plays nice. Lots of sharp rocks and small playfull terds that will jack with the line just enough to prepare it for "Daddy". I like your style Mr. Spinner |
