I'm sure someone out there has already talked about this, but I'm looking for a really good and affordable source for quality hackle. Who do you use for Hoffman and Metz (Umpqua) materials that offers a good selection at a good price? I'm needing a source. Just to contribute, I have gotten a good deal on Tungsten beads at FlyRiver.com not too long ago when they were running one of the 25 percent off deals. Check their site for specials. Now, what sites to you recommend for materials at a bargain price w/quality. And please don't say Ebay. I spend too much time there already. Thanks.

Try casting your line to www.hookhack.com or www.worldwaters.com .
You can also try Unicoi Outfitters...they sometimes have some closeout stuff and are priced right on their necks and such. If your looking for cheap necks, your wasting time and money......so say the experts I've talked to, anyway. ![]() Owl |

Kelley
If you go to hookhack.com, also find and read the hackle info and hackle study info there compliments of Bob (the owner). He has been selling hackle for about 27 years and even though he sells Metz, he also says that Metz has gone waaay down hill in quality. He doesn't recommend it. |

Thanks for the replies on my request. I guess I was misunderstood regarding the quality of hackle desired, I'm just looking to save some money on quality hackle. I would prefer to use nothing but Hoffman, but the cost is high. Some flies just don't require that high of quality.
I will check out your sources and let you know. Thanks again. Bill |

Kelley, maybe this will be helpful. I have Hoffman and Metz and they are great. Tying commercially, though, this can get expensive. I found a little company that grows their own birds and harvests them too. A saddle and neck, packaged together, is $20. They grade their hackles 1, 2, 3, and commercial. I use commercial grade and love them. This guy was a commercial tyer at one time and switched to growing his own birds. They have an awesome array of colors to choose from. Anyway, they are Collins Hackle, 436 Kinner Hill Road, Pine City, NY 14871. Their phone number is 607-734-1765. If you ever come to a fly fling I'll be happy to show you what they are like.

Thanks Lady Jane. I'll give them a try. Hope to make it to a fly fling one day. I would enjoy it.
