I'm looking for campgrounds in western N.C. to take my family. A place teenagers might enjoy and where I can walk to a trout stream.

I would get a map of the Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway and check those for camping. You didn't say what kind of camping, hence the more general answer. A lot of people use the campground in Pisgah right off highway 276 and next to the Davidson River. And that would be "a lot of people". Busy place this time of year. The National Forest does have other campgrounds and back country camping as well.

we really enjoyed the Big Cove Road area outside of Cherokee on the south edge of GSMP.
I think this is the place we stayed, but with a new name. http://www.mountainshops.com/rvc.html Hadn't been there in years though, and don't know much about it anymore. |

the area along 276 is nice and there is sliding rock where the teens kinda can hang out and have fun there.
also i would consider deep creek campground in the smokies for the same reason .... you can go and rent the kids tubes and they can splash and slosh all day .... and then you can walk up stream of the tubes and get some really good fishing in. |

Cades Cove is nice, but summertime is SUPER crowded.
I second deep creek. There is a little place just as you enter the park where a couple sells food, rents tubes and will even make you a bacon, egg, and cheese sammich for breakfast. complete with tomatos and lettuce. YUM. And I think they sell them for about $3.00. Can't beat it with two sticks. owl |

`The KOA in Cherokee is very nice. Close to the shops and fishing. The folks that run it have a pool and big screen tv with movies every night for teens. snack bar if you don't want to cook. Good fishing between campground and town. very family friendly

I Don't have a camping suggestion, but I have a rental, and so does my friend at reasonable rate that are available. Both have trout streams on the property, and mine is 3br/2b with amenities. Hers is 2br/1b with amenities and hot tub.
We are located in Nantahala, NC about 4 miles from Nantahala Lake and about 4 miles from Queens Lake, Nantahala River is just minutes away, We have lots of Trout fisherman that come up, and is a safe place for kids, too! If you are interested, feel free to call at 828-321-0459 or 828-321-4134 or email me at birdsong@webworkz.com |

Davidson River camp ground off of 276 is nice, but crowded. You have to make reservations. There are plenty of other camp sites throughtout Pisgah though. They just won't have the amenities your family may need. Sliding rock is fun for the kids and there are plenty of swimming holes and water falls. You can go to a books store and get an atlas with detailed topographis maps of north caraolin. DeLorme makes a good one. This will show most everything from camp grounds to trout streams.
