So what's this "reliable source"? Noone can predict gasoline prices. There are too many variables.
crude is still trading northwards of $62/barrell. Some of those factors are (but not limited to) supply and demand, cost of crude, cost of cracking (processing of crude to various refined products such as gasoline). Include into the cost of cracking either power or natural gas because the crude has to be heated. supply and demand is a big part. Consider diesel fuel which is $0.20+ higher than unleaded yet diesel is "cracked" at a much lower temp. So why is the cost higher? It's supply and demand. The supply is not much ahead of the demand. Most of the demand for diesel belive it or not is the midwest with their farming. Here's a brief bit on refining gasoline... http://www.exxonmobil.com/Corporate/...nemade_ix.html Wednesday is when the oil storage numbers are released and thursday is when the nat gas storage numbers are released. I'd love to see $1.90.

On the way home from the Charlotte show, we stopped off 85 in SC north of Greenville and I filled up with premium at $1.79/gal. Saw one billboard, figured it was an old sign and the place had gone under. Another sign at the same price, we decided to check it out, station was open and doing a lot of business.
When we got back, I filled up at BJ's in Woodstock. Cost $2.24/gal... Go figger... Bill

Dan... that "reliable source" i was refering to was just for the first post... and it turned out he was right on... but that was months ago... i havent talked to the source lately... since then, all my posts have been based on that bloomberg gas futures data (link above) and what observing prices in different places... now, this thread has turned into one that we can use to "vent" about gas prices and discuss how they affect our fishing
![]() So i'm gonna vent now ... literally two weeks ago, i filled up for 1.99 at Kroger (after the shopping discount)... today, it looks like i may have to pay at least 2.35... maybe even 2.45... dang!, that's approaching a 25% increase ... also may have to pay even more on the 25th, opening day... was planning to go up to the Toog or Coleman on opening day, but now probably staying in White and Union Counties.Last edited by Path_Less_Traveled; 03-16-06 at 07:29 AM. |

I think SC has no gas tax, or lower than GA's I think I heard somewhere. When I lived there it was always cheaper than GA,except for Augusta, for some reason, was always dirt cheap, and was even featured in USA today about being lowest in the US, and this was before the big Katrina gouge.

BG... Florida prices are much worse than Ga's... we always stop at the last couple Ga exits when travelling down there... and try to make it up to the Ga state line on the way back.

yeah gas in SC is always cheaper. when I lived in Charlotte, I'd cross over into SC to pick up some lottery tickets and fill up the tank. Never understood why it took NC so long to realize the potential income from the lottery. SC is doing it right, education lottery. Whenever the powerball hit near record numbers the top 3-5 sites selling tickets in SC were always along the NC border. This hitting the news wires from SC lottery officials.
My first truck had 22 gallon tank and now this one has a 24. I do my grocery shopping at kroger and every $100 a month I spend I get $0.10 off a gallon. I just got about 29 gallons for $2.19 a few days ago. I remember living in Indiana in the late 90s when gas prices first started shooting up. I remember the state suspended the sales tax. That was when gas was around $1.50/gal and it dropped $0.13. Things do change. very hard to predict. Oil prices dropped last thur and fri about $2. It's back up this week.

Forgot to answer your question Dan... the source is simply a convenient store owner... he seems to have a good handle on where gas prices are going, but i dont see him very often... and yea... that .10 discount sure does help... for me, .10 per gallon translates into about $150 in annual savings.
Here's that bloomberg link... http://www.bloomberg.com/energy/ Just a few weeks ago, the gas futures hit the 1.30's... late last week, they were in the low/mid 1.80's... so that's a .50 cent increase... which could send us to the 2.50's... some places are already there. |

In my effort to save a little on gas, especially driving SUVs, I have used this site as a forecast where gas prices are heading. Basically, if I see the prices going down I will wait till the last drop, or only put enough in to get me were I going, before I fill it up. If the prices are going up, I'll fill up if needed. The price on the graph is the day’s market trading price. Typically, about $0.62 cents need to be added to cover taxes and such. But, I have figured that in GA its more like $0.40 to $0.50 cents.

SC does too have a gas tax. We're close to a pipeline and distribution hub, so gas is slightly cheaper in the upstate, but even then, you'd better look around. Best I could do yesterday was $2.29.
And the lottery.......why are we still 49th in the Union? ![]()
