Solid looking pup, congrats! I have two Labs myself, you can't beat em!
PS: not sure how you plan to train your pup, but may I recommend Richard Wolter's "Gun Dog" book. He has a series of books specific to training Labrador Retrievers. Gun Dog teaches you how to turn your retriever into an upland bird dog. He also has a book called Water Dog (for duck hunters) and one called "Family Dog" that uses the same training methods but does not include some of the hunting skills he teaches in the other books. Have fun with him. BTW, the lad gotta a name yet?

Congrats. I have a 8-yr old Yellow Lab myself, I remember when she was that small. Great dogs, mine won a state obedience championship and I had no idea what I was doing.
Highly recommend obedience training and NOT at Pet Smart. |

I got one myself a few weeks ago, and life hasn't been the same since! My boy Winston is now 16wks old and 40lbs of all lab. I hope your new addition brings you as much joy as mine has! Here's a picture of him at 9wks:

I have always had dogs, but got my first lab 15 months ago. What a great dog, always happy, always makes me laugh, always ready to be at my side on hikes or just sitting. I will never be without a lab again! The only trouble is that he thinks he is human and will wake up with him in bed between my wife and me. Guess I need some of that training for him y'all are talking about.

My wife and I picked up a female black lab from the humane society about a year ago. Vet estimated she was about 8-10 months old when we adopted her.
She was a stray that was picked up. We went on a saturday morning to look around (first place we went). We had to wait until wednesday to adopt her because of the 5 day waiting period. After looking at the dogs, I told my wife i wanted the black lab. She was very shy at first, but quickly grew out of that. She was house broken and was trained a little. She's an excellent watch dog and i'm sure would make a great guard dog too. she's a black lab mix, vet could not tell what she was mixed with. looking at her you can obviously tell she's a black lab. she is about 1/2 the size (42 lbs) of a full blooded lab. I've had dogs my whole life and would say she's one of the best (top 5) dogs i know.
