Default Montana Trout

WE fished the Yellowstone River and done very well but was impressed with Slough Creek,Mill Creek and Talor's Fork Creek! Some of the best fishin' I've ever done was on those creeks! Cutties from 10 to 16 inches all day on Mill Creek but very tough to climb down to !!!!! Weather was good! Caught 90% of trout on Parachute Adams.......size14's and 12's Talor's Fork Creek was very heavy with large Rainbows.......Chuncky fish! This creek was half meadows and steep cliffs on the opposit side...... largest trout was 20 inches I have many photo's for anyone that would like to see these nice fish and creeks.......... It was eight days of per paradise!!!!! Take a 6wt. on the Yellowstone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lambster,

I have a "Lake" story:

I took the boat taxi across Lake Yellowstone last summer with my oldest son. We headed for the Thorofare Region (14 mile boat ride) and camped at a place called Columbine Meadow. After setting up camp on the shore of the lake, we noticed a pit toilet just inside the treeline. I walked back to inspect only to discover that it had huge claw marks on it and was pushed off it's foundation.

Anyhow....I waded out about 100 feet from shore (the slope was gradual where we were) and began stripping a black wooly booger. About every ten minutes I'd get a strike and occasionally land a nice cutt. See photo below....

The downside:

The wind begins to blow about mid-day and does not settle down until sundown. As a result, there are often waves that are three feet high. With the waves crashing against the shore.....It sounds like you're camping at the edge of the beach in Daytona or Panama City. The boat taxi oftentimes has to stay at the marina due to the rough water....and as a result, you may have to spend an extra night in the backcountry. Don't ask me how I know this

Also remember that the lake is at about 7500 foot elevation. We had frost on the tent each night we were there (late July, early August). All in all....it's a neat place to backpack and camp!!

Hey Drifter nice photo! I was told that you don't have to fish deep? Did you have any bear problems? Also are their cabins in the area? Are their any other Trout besides Cutties in the Lake?
