A little clarification, please. Yesterday I received an email (which I assume most of the membership here received as well), advertising Aaron's new book on fishing the Hooch DH. In addition to the irritation of yet another spam email in my inbox to delete, it raised some questions for me. Was the use of the membership email list for commercial purposes officially approved by the BOD? Did anybody consider the effect of that use on the organization's nonprofit status? Are all of the members able to use the email list to promote their own business interests, or was this just a one-time thing?
This isn't intended to question Aaron, because I have always thought his posts to be useful and I know he does a lot for the board. My suggestion is to the BOD--please don't loan out the email list to people, even past BOD members. Everybody likes to complain about spammers coming on the board and selling their wares, but the board has allowed private use of the membership email list for commercial purposes, is that any better? Aaron, I suggest you refund the poster's membership fee.

Hi Coelacanth,
I appreciate your concern - and in the event others share that concern I will post my response to you that was sent via email yesterday: "I apologize for the inconvenience and I assure you that your email address was not obtained by any means from NGTO. This was a one-time mailing to those who were in my address book and although I personally don't remember meeting you by name we must have corresponded in the past. I will make sure you do not receive any more emails on behalf of georgiafishingbooks.com and I apologize." Thanks, Aaron asago@georgiafishingbooks.com |

Thanks, Aaron, for clearing that up. I understand the source of the email. BOD, I rescind my questions.
