Hello folks -- I trust that everyone has marked their calendar for the Fling!
This year I'd like to do something a bit different in the way of tying, and that is to offer a series of one-hour workshops on tying specific flies. These workshops will not be an intro to fly tying -- Beth's got a great intro course starting at 9! -- but will instead be for folks who already know the basics and who want to explore tying some specific types of flies. I'd like to start each of these on the hour, starting at 8 a.m., with workshops at 8, 9, 10 and 11. We'll start promptly on the hour. Here's the schedule and the topics I'm looking at: 8 a.m. -- Tying an epoxy spoonfly-style fly for fresh or saltwater 9 a.m. -- Tying popping bugs 10 a.m. -- Tying craft-shop woolly buggers (using all craft shop materials) 11 a.m. -- Tying "junk food" flies for DH trout How many people: I've got vises for six tyers, so I'll set up for six for each session. If I can find more vises, or if you have your own that you can bring, we can certainly have more participants if there's interest. What to bring: All you need to bring is scissors (and a vise, if you have it and want to use your own), and (depending on where we end up setting up) a small lamp so you can see well. I'll provide everything else. Should I sign up in advance? If you know you'd like to be a part of one of the sessions and would like to reserve a spot, I'll be glad to start a list for each session. But if you decide at the last minute to come, and there's room, that's fine too! Cost: There is no cost for any of these sessions. Really! If you'd like to chip in to help cover the cost of hooks, handouts and such, that would be appreciated -- I'll put out a donation jar -- but it is absolutely not expected or required. Yes, really! I think this should be fun, and I'll look forward to seeing you there! Best, Steve Hudson |

Steve,
Sign me up for the 9am - popping bugs. Then depending on how things are going may be back for the "junk food" thanks, Sam

Hope you don't mind Steve but I moved this thread and "stuck it" because I want to make sure everyone knows about this - this a really good opportunity for fly tyers of all skill levels.

Any chance you, or anyone else, might be willing to expand your topics to include a session on tying in soft hackles? I have tried several methods about which I have read -- but never seem to make it just right.
Bet I am not the only one who is "hackle challenged"! Just a thought. |

I am so sorry, but there has been a death in the family and I will not be able to make the Fall Fling as hoped as the services will be Saturday.
That means we won't be able to have the one-hour fly ting seminars we'd talked about, and I wanted to let everyone know as soon as I was sure. My apologies to the folks who had planned to be a part of the one-hour tying workshops. I'll see about rescheduling them one Saturday over the next few weeks at the church in Alpharetta and let the group know. Y'all enjoy the fellowship, fun and food, and I look forward to great reports. Best, Steve Hudson |

Steve,
Condolences to you and your family on your loss. For any one who is interested I will bring a variety of tying materials and you can request some fly tying demos. I know that there is some interest in Dremel Bugs, Soft hackles, wooly buggers, and spinning/stacking hair. I'll have a couple of vices, and other tying equipment, but if you want, please bring your own, especially scissors and bobbins. I will try and accomodate as many people and ties as I can. Maybe this will help make up for Steve's understandable absence. If there is a particular fly or style you would like to see, please let me know so I can bring the material. Chuck
