Default Amicalola River DH 11/16/07...

I had a few hours to kill... So what better way to do that, than wetting a line. I made it up the 53 Bridge and started fishing around 3:30. Air temp was pretty cool, 48* on the bank sign in Dawsonville. Sunny and not half as windy as past couple of days...

I got in at the first boat launch and started working my way up... Very carefully, as the Ami has some deep holes and slick rocks. I tied on a Rl'ed PT and dropped a hot pink SJW off the back. And I started catching fish right off the bat... Better than average size too... Thank you DNR... Most were taking the SJW, but I did get a few on the PT...

Here are some fish for you...

I probably caught close to 15 fish in the first hour... All rainbows. The next hour, after the shade started to creep on to the water, I was lucky to catch anything... I think I managed 3 fish... Oh well, fun while it lasted.

As I was getting ready to call it a day, a gentleman pulls up and started to ask about the fishing... Low and behold it was the elusive Dredger, Mr. Jeff Durniak. I tried listening as best I could to his very helpful advice... But standing in the middle of a river with rushing water behind you, makes a conversation fairly difficult... And there was no way I was going to fall into a hole and look like an idiot trying to get the bank...

But I did manage to pull 1 more out of that hole, thanks Jeff... I just needed more weight...

Not a bad way to kill a few hours... I'll take it any day. It was nice meeting you Jeff, appreciate the advice.

Hope yall enjoy it...

I talked to Jeff right after he saw you - said you were doing well. Sometimes I think Jeff may be an entire army of robots instead of just one person - and when someone is on a trout stream in GA somewhere and they don't have enough lead on their leader, a "Dredger-bot" is dispatched to that location and is programmed to say "more split-shot." Does anyone else subscribe to this theory?

That sounds like an awesome day!

Jeff always has some advice for almost anyone. Usually it is more shot, once I had the privilage to have him tell me less shot (I was kinda seeing if he would even say it )

Tight lines.

Default 11/16

I was out there yesterday from about 11-4 in the pool just below the Steel Bridge. It was my first time fishing the Amicalola (except one failed attempt when it was too hot early last summer) and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Caught about a dozen rainbows, all 10-12" on olive woolly bugger and prince nymph. Would have caught more if it hadn't taken me a little while to get the hang of things (i.e. more split-shot, and use a real indicator instead of a dropper). Met and talked to some nice folks throughout the day. Gorgeous weather, gorgeous river, and it made me really excited for the DH season.

By the way, thanks to Terry Creech, whose 11/10 report reminded me of the existence of DH season and that I really ought to get out there.

Question

Any fish spread out in the nicer looking runs? I fished it for a few hours on Thursday without much luck. I figured most of the fish were probably in the deeper slow moving pools but I didn't fish them much. I don't really like fishing deep slow moving pools but I wasn't very confident in the areas that I was fishing as a result I kind of rushed through a lot of spots trying to hit a pod of fish. Never really did but I'm wondering if you had any luck outside of the deep stuff. Can't wait to fish that area when they are spread out.
