Default Troubling phone calls

Gatorbyte I'm sorry if I'm betraying your trust and friendship but I feel like I have to reach out to my fellow NGTO'ers for help because you are about to loose it, seriously. I don't know if Daddy's money is drying up, he won the lottery or what but he needs help.

He called me a little bit ago complaining about his grueling work ethics/schedule. That he has to work THREE WHOLE DAYS this week. See fishing connection thread http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/foru...ad.php?t=67167 .

Well anyways the conversation continues on for at least 15 minutes about he's gotta work three days this week, next week three days due to Memorial day and then he proceeds to complain further that in June he can't believe it but he has to work two full weeks in a row!!! And keep in mind that his full work week is Monday thru Thursday FOUR WHOPPING DAYS!!!!

I'm seriously thinking he needs to wake up and see what most people do Monday thru Friday. Yeah yeah I know I fish with him on Fridays quite often but I ususally end up working Saturday or late in the evenings all week to do this. I dunno I'm just concerned that he may do something drastic like quit his job or something. He used to live in a van down by the river and I'm afraid he's heading back that direction.

Please post words of encouragement to help him out.

Default What do you want to do...

when you grow up little girl?

Live in a van down by the river.

Well....you'll have plenty of time to live in a van down by the river when....you're living in a van down by the river!

I feel for you GB, I only get 14 weeks of vacation per year! And it's all spread out like so I don't have time take 3 month trips to Bozeman! Oh wait....they get what they pay for with teachers I guess. That's why I can't afford to go to Bozeman, or even a $14 fishing license for that matter.

Default Man up

Come on Gator, you can do this. God gave us work so that time spent fishing could be truly appreciated. Don't try and do it all at once. Start with just three days a week and work up from there. And on the fourth day, maybe just get up and make the drive in to work (that's the hardest part). Then go treat yourself to an All Star breakfast.

What if no one went to work more than three days a week? What if the DNR took four-day weekends? For the love of God, man, think this through. And remember, while there may be shelter under the umbrella of welfare for work phobia, you can't buy new gear on those meager handouts (Yes, you might qualify for trout stamps, but you only get one a year, and I think they're only worth about $8.). Besides, unless you're a hopeless lefty, your self-esteem will soon plummet. In no time you'll be wandering the woods of the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area - a disheveled, unshaven, gaunt shell of your former self, lost in a daily struggle with the raccoons for sandwich ends and Fritos crumbs.

Get thee to work, my son.

Thanks guys for the kind sentiments. It was rough, but I made it through an entire day. I just don't know if can make it tomorrow and Wednesday. Would it be alright if I squeeze in some fishing tomorrow afternoon? It is the full moon and all and the bream could be active. I think it's the only way I'll be able to survive this treacherous stretch.

I'll keep you posted.

Hey....it could be worse. At least it's not golf. Just look at it like he's in training for his Professional Fisherman phase.

hey i remember sleepin in my car a few times, sometimes in the late 1970,s would go to reliance, an fish the hiwassee, i would be restless an go way too early, an just wait an doze in the car, other times, in east tennessee, just didnt wanna be bothered by things, sometimes a few of us would camp out an crash in the car, but i had my black lab for a while, an he would wake me, barkin an growlin, as he looked at his own reflection in the window,, hahaha, its the truth, since the late 1980,s or so, i quit havin any dogs as pets, now we have a cat, but yes, i can relate to sleepin in the car or van, an did it plenty, with company, to avoid hotel bills an stuff, those days are gone, an forgotten an forgiven,, im outta here..

On the other hand, any advice for a workaholic who puts in an average of 70 hours a week(teaching and coaching)? Don't know if I am going to make it to retirement. Ah, to go into semi retirement like GB

Default A quick update

I am trying to make it all day, but with the weather looking sketchy I may just sneak out back and try some of these Bream Swap flies. Can you beleive they expected me to participate in back to back meetings that were 60 minutes a piece. What is wrong with people?

Thanks again for all of the encouragement.

Coach: Just think, only a few more days and your fishing schedule opens up. How does the Nantahala or Tuck sound?

Yep. Gator, let's go! The last time I went to the Tuck, I spotted some good lies.
