Default Tying tips and tutorials MASTER LIST

As new items come in, I will update the list. It may take me some time to research the archives and find other tips etc. Please be patient.
If you have a tip or tutorial that has been posted please send me a PM and I will add it to the list.
I am going to do this the same as the Master Fly Pattern list is done in the Fly Patterns forum. So please post your tips etc. as a separate thread.
Jack (The Ole Man), "Thank You" for making this a sticky.
Another "Thank You" to 94840 for the suggestion of this thread.

Wink Tying Tip for the South Holston

If you have been blessed to fish this super water you know what a drop of yellow demensional fabric paint on the back of a size 14 & 16 PT will do for your results.

While I do not know what this triggers in the trout of the South Holston, I do know it works.

Contact Rusty Fowler here at NGTO and he can give you all the details and show you how to have a great trip.

The Fly Fishing Festival will have several wonderful tiers demo a number of patterns both Sat. & Sunday. Come on out and enjoy learning something new. I never leave without being a better tier.

Default Hook Chart

Thought some of our new Tiers may find this hook chart link useful:

Default Recommended Books and Sites

The book that got me started on Fly Tying is Charlie Craven's Basic Fly Tying, which is excellent for beginners. He covers about 16 flies, and in my experience those 16 flies are all you will need to catch fish anywhere on the planet (maybe a little exaggeration but definitely any trout waters in the U.S.)

That said, his website charliesflybox.com also has step by step tutorials to 179 flies, as of today, and the list is growing. Anyway, when i have a question about a fly pattern, that is the first place I check.
