First off, welcome to NGTO! Yes, the "Ami" as we like to call it gets fished quite a lot this time of year as it is one of the DNR's designated delayed harvest rivers. From the Steele Bridge all the way down to the Highway 53 bridge, it is catch and release only from November 1st to May 15th. There are a few other regs associated with fishing DH streams, so may sure you check your fishing regulations manual for details.

May be difficult to wade...still could be up quite a bit from the rains.

Default lures

As far as fishing the AMI are Rooster tails ok? They are artifical but do have trebble hooks and are not a single hook. I'm taking a young angler and want to make sure that we have the right gear.

It just has to be a single hook so you need to cut two of them off. They do make single hook rooster tails but I have never fished the so I don't know where to get them. I went up there this after noon and it was still running high. You might do well at the big pool at the bridge with the rooster tail.

Good luck

BPS sells the single hook rooster tails. Sometimes you can find them at Dick's but the selection is slim. Take the others' advise and cut off two of them, especially if you already have them...it will save you the $$.

Default Ami yesterday

I tried it myself yesterday and there were very few places I could even stand comfortably to cast and couldn't keep my flies down. It was rough.
