Default Question regarding Fishing DH streams

If a given stream has a DH section, is the entire stream open to fishing at this time of year,
or just the DH section? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but your help in clarifying this will be appreciated.

The public access sections of the stream are open as well. All trout from the DH section are fair game and can be kept if they leave the DH zone. An example would be that fish caught above the 28 bridge on the Chattooga are DH fish and any below the bridge could be kept if you want to.

Well, it depends. For example the Chattahoochee is fully fishable but the DH section is purely catch and release until May 1. And other rules apply as well, both in the DH and for other sections.

See this link for the DNR and the definitions of DH and Seasonal Streams and see if that helps.

Also, DH and Trout Season are different dates:

Trout Season (seasonal steams open) - March 28 to October 31
Delayed Harvest is in effect from November 1, 2008 to May 14, 2009.

OK, the you have it. The nature of the question.

For example, would it be legal to fish the Chattooga downstream of the 28 bridge at this time of year? The question is not about killing fish, but about the legality of fishing in a section of stream well away from the DH section, in winter months.

Actually, the DNR link above led me to the answer. Thanks for the responses.

The short answer is yes, but check out the regulations on www.GoFishGeorgia.com. While no one on NGTO is going to lead you astray on purpose, don't rely on us. Check out the regulations for yourself. If you get caught fishing on a stream illegally, it won't matter to that conservation ranger if you say, "But so-and-so on NGTO said..."

Irrefutable logic, sir. Of course you are correct.

It seems that some streams are designated seasonal and some year around. In as much as my question pertained specifically to DH streams, and in the example give, the Chattooga, I was able to determine that I could fish pretty much anywhere above a specific designated point south of the 28 bridge, all the way to the NC line.

Thanks for the advice. JHJ

The specific example I can think of is directly upstream of the DH on the Amicalola is seasonal and therefore off limits during the DH. I believe.

Do not fish above the Steele Bridge.
