Well, I will wrap this up before it becomes a "how I spent my summer vacation" slide show in a dark, musty, family room somewhere.
By the end of the week we had decided to maybe try and rent some kayaks and do some bay fishing on our own. We did some more exploration by car in the state park and at every public access point on the cape. This was an access point farther up in Eagle Harbor. ![]() A random thing along the shoreline in the park. ![]() My wife with another random thing along the shoreline in the park. ![]() This was an access point at the narrow part of the cape. This area of the cape was no more than a few hundred feet wide from the Gulf to the waters of the bay, with just a two-lane road running down the middle. They were doing some stabilization work installing sheet pilings and giant boulders right next to the Gulf. The area looks like one big storm event away from making the cape an island. ![]() ![]() We didn't get enough of a clear block of storm-free hours to commit to kayak rentals so we decided to wade out and try our luck in the bay. It was very windy so we did not try the fly rods. Spinning rods and shrimp were our gear of choice. It seemed like low tide because the water was only a few inches deep for a few hundred feet out from the shore. It wasn't low tide so the wind may have actually been stacking the water up on the other side of the bay maybe? ![]() We waded out to the boats that you can see in the background of the photo above. My wife asked how close we should fish to a boat. I have never really had to deal with that when I wasn't in a boat myself. We waded up a respectful distance and began fishing. At one point I think I was fishing farther out than the angler in the boat, I was standing almost even with him at least. It was pretty shallow but we managed to get some casts out to deeper waters. I was eventually rewarded with this toothy critter on a shrimp on a jig head. ![]() ![]() We eventually had to wade back to shore to clean up for our last dinner out. We had great meal and a great last sunset in Port St. Joe. ![]() It was a wonderful trip with my wife overall. And I think she is interested in getting a couple of single sit-on-top kayaks for future trips, too. ![]() TH

I thoroughly enjoyed the reports. I do feel obligated to point out that you managed to coordinate your colors quite well. Maybe that contributed to catching such a nice trout.

The trout pic is pretty good too!! Fish and good lookin women, what a combo. Or should I say a very pretty wife, with spinning rod in hand. Maybe there is hope for me to someday see my wife with a fishing rod in hand. Thanks Jeff Last edited by Fish Gazer; 06-11-09 at 09:33 AM. |

Thanks for the kind words.
It was a great trip that I was happy to share since I vicariously live through others' trips posted here all the time. Good luck on everyones' upcoming trips to FL. I love Steinhatchee too. Steve, I left a lot of fish for you. A lot. I got one last picture that I was supposed to share (with my color-coordinated, good luck Steinhatchee hat). I also heard "why didn't you use pictures where I am wearing make up and a dress?" Um, while fishing, I asked??? OK. Maybe not. I agree, I am very lucky. She can shoot a mean shotgun, too. ![]() TH
