Default Fishing in Late Summer/Early Fall

Hey everyone,

For the past 8 years, my family and I have spent 2 separate weeks in Blairsville and I pretty much fly fish every day (I know, I have a great wife!). In the past, we've come in March and June due to our children's school schedule. However, we'll be home schooling them this year so we thought we'd push our June trip to late September or October.

In general, how's the fishing pressure and water temps at that time? How about hatches? Is the fishing generally better as the temperatures cool?

Thanks in advance folks.

Pressure will lighten a bit. Trout season will remain open until Oct. 31, so you will have a full menu of waters. Hatches may apply to some water, but not most.

Georgia is officially over the drought. If we have a normal summer, more fish will survive, but autumn fishing has always been better than summer to me.

Default John,

October is probably better than September. I'd recommend getting a North Carolina license and trying the Nantahala DH; DH season opens October 1st. Also, although stocking usually stops after Labor Day, at the latest, if you want to go after wild fish, October can be great! PM me if you want suggestions of where to go for wild fish.

Default Thanks

That's great to hear guys. Another advantage of homeschooling.

Bill, maybe we'll get a chance to fish together again? I hope so.

Default John,

Let me know when you're going up. If our visits correspond, maybe we could fish together.
And if you're up for a hike, we might be able to try a brookie stream.
