Default It's Spring Fling Time!

Good morning to all, I hope this finds you healthy and happy! I just wanted to give one final Presidential shout-out for the Spring Fling coming up next Saturday, March 20th at the Buford Fish Hatchery. Below is a quick summary of this year's event and it has shaped up to be a very good one! I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday. I will be the short guy wearing the big cowboy hat!

I guess you could say we have no "official start time", but if I had to say a good time to arrive, it would be 9:00 am as that is when we get stuff going. I would ask that if you are a volunteer, please plan on arriving by 8:00 am to help with preparations and set up duties. Throughout the morning, there will be fly tying demos and leader furling demos going on most of the morning up until lunch time. We will also have on hand many of our site Sponsors and Supporters that you can chat with and learn more about the goods and services they offer to NGTO members.

Mudpuppy's Drag Free Drift Class: this requires an early arrival at 8:00 am, as you will be taken down to the river for on the water instructions. Please see her post for details on this event as it requires equipment and saftey gear. Plain Old Catching Fish Spring Fling

Steve Hudson's Intro Fly Tying class: this starts at 9:00 am and goes for about 2 hours. See Steve's post for details and to sign up. http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/foru...ad.php?t=78053

RocketRoy's Casting game also starts around 9:00 am and pretty much runs all morning long. This event is a lot of fun and open to one and all. Roy sets up a very fun casting course and there will be several certified casting instructors on hand if you need some pointers in improving your casting skills.

Spring Fling Mini-Auction

A rare treat, as we normally do not do much fund raising at the Spring event. But we have some new NGTO sponsors who have made some great donations and I just go no where to store this stuff! Come out and support NGTO with your generous bids for the great items.

And a quick note to auction winners; you must pay for any items you win the day of the Fling. Checks from local banks and our course cash will be accepted. Please do not bid on an item if you are not prepared to pay for the item on Saturday if you win. See this post for more details: http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/foru...ad.php?t=77867

Seminars: Held inside the big shop building:
  • 9:00 am - David Cannon speaking on fishing opportunities near Atlanta
  • 10:00 am - Jimmy Harris of Unicoi Outfitters speaking on Trout behavior and how to fool them!
  • 11:00 am - Gwinnett County Swift Water Rescue Team speaking on Water Safety
Free BBQ Lunch Provided by Goldstar BBQ

Lunch will be served somewhere around the noon hour and will consist of some of the best pulled pork BBQ you have ever eaten. We will have buns and traditional sides (cole slaw), but do need our members to bring a side dish or desert to share to help round out the meal. And don't forget the famed NGTO Iron Skillet Award given to the best side dish as voted on by the rank and file! http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/foru...ad.php?t=78462

A quick funding note; although the BBQ lunch is free, it does cost a decent amount for NGTO to feed so many folks. We will have a donation bucket in the chow line and would appreciate any small donation you could make to help us defer the cost of the food. This allows us to have more money available to fund the many different worthwhile projects that NGTO supports throughout the year. A few bucks from each member is all we would need to fully cover the cost of putting on the Fling! Thanks in advance for helping us out with this!

A Word on the Weather

March in Georgia can have just about any type weather you can imagine short of a blizzard. It might be sunny and 75 or cold as the dickens. Watch the weather closely before the Fling and dress accordingly. This is a rain or shine event, so please pray for a nice sunny day! We will only cancel this event if an all day soaker is in the forecast. Please check NGTO later this week for any updates concerning the weather and any potential cancellations.

Directions to the Buford Hatchery

The Buford trout hatchery is located in Forsyth County on the banks of the Chattahoochee River just downstream of Lake Lanier and Buford Dam.

Directions from Interstate 85/985: Travel west on GA Highway 20. After you cross the Chattahoochee River you will turn right onto River Club Dr. (you will be entering a subdivision - look for the DNR hatchery sign). Travel approximately 1/2 mile on River Club Dr., turn right onto Trout Place Road (at the second hatchery sign). The hatchery is through the gate at the end of the road.

Directions from GA 400: Travel east on GA Highway 20 for approximately 4 1/2 miles, turn left onto River Club Dr. (into the subdivision) and follow the directions above.

Enter the following address in Google Maps for turn by turn directions from your house: 3204 Trout Place Rd., Cumming GA 30041

Helpful Fling Tips

Parking Information: For safety / emergency response reasons, we cannot park vehicles on both sides of the road leading into the hatchery. We will have parking volunteers to help you find parking inside the hatchery grounds.

Please bring something to sit on! Very few tables and chairs will be available, so please bring a folding chair to sit and eat lunch with. To ensure you have a comfy place to rest your tushy, please bring along your own portable chairs.

Kids? - yes please bring them! NGTO loves kids and this event is a great way to expose them to trout fishing. The hatchery is a fascinating place and you and your kids can tour the grounds and even feed some trout chow to a few thousand hungry fish!

Yeah the weather is going to be Fantastic !

Bring your friends, family and kids out to enjoy some great weather and fun.

The little ones always have a ball feeding and checking out the trout in the holding tanks. If they want to try and catch some bream or catfish take them over to the Hatchery pond. Heres a tip bring a couple hotdogs and you will be set for bait with the fish in the pond.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday.

Default name tags

Is there any chance of having name tags for all NGTO attendees? All you guys look alike to me!
