Default Stocking Schedule

I noticed the 2009 stocking schedule for all north GA rivers & streams was removed from the DNR site and the 2010 schedule is not posted. Do you know if & when it might be posted?

Not interested in chasing stock trucks... Just curious about the bi-weekly & monthly stocking schedules for various streams and if it's changed since last year?

yea, i've heard the schedule that has been posted for year and years, isnt quite accurate... for example, noontootla and frogtown dont get stocked at all, but are on the stocking list... there may be others...

maybe this year we'll have 'normal' weather so dnr can do the regular stockings and not have to make adjustments for hot/dry weather.

WRD staff does a very good job of verifying information presented to the public. If you need more specific information, call

Jeff Durniak at:
770-535-5498,

or

Perry Thompson at:
706-947-3005, ext 102

there was a debate here on the board re noontootla stocking a couple years ago... i called perry then and he confirmed that the toot never gets stocked (though it has been on the list for as long as i can remember)... my understanding is that it hasnt been stocked in decades... (and i'm pretty sure the same went for frogtown)...

actually, we like it that way... most people who fish the toot would rather not have it stocked... it kinda stocks itself

bill... we appreciate you being here... you're a value asset to our little community... hopefully now that you've retired, you wont be so overwhelmed.

PLT,

Thanks for your post and compliment. When I logged on NGTO the very first time, it was to address an issue that was being mis-reported. Its been so long, I don't remember the issue, but I accepted the job of moderator of this forum to ensure the information is accurate, and I have remained the moderator for the same reason.

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but I can assure you if a stream was on the stocking list, it was stocked, or there was a very good reason that it wasn't. When WRD approves a stocking list, they make every reasonable attempt to meet the list. That effort notches up a when the list is made available to the public". If a stream isn't stocked, there is a very good reason.

Stream conditions (unacceptable temperatures or flows) do alter stocking numbers and frequency and would be the only reason a listed stream would not be stocked. Even in the rare years when fish supplies run short, fish numbers for stream stockings are reduced, not dropped. Occasionally stocking frequencies are reduced to make sure fish hauling was efficient from a fuel and manpower perspective. I contacted WRD Fisheries Supervisor Jeff Durniak with your concern and received the following reply.

"Streams do not end at wma or USFS boundaries. Noon got 800 fish last year and is scheduled for the same number in '10. Frogtown got 3433 in 09 and is scheduled for 3375 this year.

We (WRD) strive(s) to have no errors in proposed stocking list. Of course, if hatchery or stream conditions dictate change, we will manage the actual stockings accordingly, for greatest public benefit."

Thanks again. I hope this helps,
Best,
Bill

great info!... thanks... so there is ~800 put in the toot, somewhere (but not necessarily the wma, which reminds me to try toot location i havent tried in a while)...

also, with this new 'enlightenment', i'm gonna have to tweak the itinerary for this spring... i.e., hit some of the lessor stocked (therefore less pressured) streams on that list
