Default More evidence for the greatness of the 50mm f/1.8

Check this out:

http://nikonrumors.com/2010/06/22/dx...mors-here.aspx

Based on optical metric scores, the $100 50mm f/1.8 lens I'm always preaching about scored SECOND amongst the list of Nikkor lenses (the one that scored first costs $2,100 and the one that scored third costs $400).

And, the Canon counterpart is almost exactly the same lens. For any of you who shoot with a DSLR and don't own this lens, you've got to get it!

I read what they are doing and the scoring is "camera plus lens" testing. In the case of the 50mm f1.8D, if you have a D90 the test states the lens is slightly better than poor. OTOH if you have a D3X it is excellent. So I guess I want to ask do you have the $900 D90 or the $7500 D3X?

Right, but that's more of a relativity score than a lens quality score if that makes sense. All of the top scores were "you name the lens" paired with the D3X.

And I have the middle-of-the-road D300s (it's crazy that that camera is their middle camera!).

No, I have not shot any. While I understand that DSLR's take better video than the cameras used for TV, I have no interest.
