Default Headwaters Bamboo Rods

Does anyone have any experience with Headwaters Bamboo Rods? I just recieved a mail advertisement for 40% off their Deluxe Series Rods. It seems like $330 for a new bomboo rod might be a good deal unless its junk.

Well, I am not sure I would call it junk, but it is also not a high quality hand crafted bamboo fly rod either. What you are getting is a made in China mass produced bamboo rod. I have heard that they cast OK and that the workmanship has gotten better over the years, so I don't think you would be getting ripped off at that price point. But understand that you will probably not be able to sell it for what you paid for it, they just do not hold their value like the better American and British made cane rods.

I am not knocking these rods at all, I am sure they fish fine. But most serious bamboo rod folks tend to stay away from the mass produced Chinese rods.

Couldn't agree more with Clark...can't exactly call them junk but ive fished a few and I really wasn't impresses. You dont need to spend a fortune to get a nice fishable cane rod, do some homework and pick up a piece of americana with a southbend, phillipson, or granger. Not only will they fish better, but they retain their value and you can move them easily if need be.

Agreed.....for the same amount ($300), you can get a nice Granger, Tonka Prince or Queen, maybe even a Philipson. With a little luck, you may even score a reel and bamboo rod for that amount. And as S.T. said, you can get your investment back pretty easily.
Good luck

Monty and H&I also made some decent low price rods, but I'm going to have to agree a South Bend is the way to go. IMHO they are the best boo rods for the price.

Default Headwaters Bamboo

A friend of mine ordered the Headwaters Favorite, and actually let me fish it for about ten minutes. I was impressed with the rod to the extent I ordered one for myself. Sure, I may not get my money back, but for the price of the rod, if I fish it two years and wrap it around a tree, so what? I buy twice barrel shotguns for investments. I buy fishing rods to fish with. To each his own. I hope to fish the new rod this weekend, and will post firsthand my experience with Headwaters rods.

Very cool, I think you will be very happy with it. Like I said, you are not buying what anyone would consider a piece of junk here. Please post some pics when you get the rod!
