Default Weatherby Upland PA-08 Shotgun

Does anyone have any experience with the Weatherby Upland PA-08 shotgun? Dick's had it on sale last week, and I was looking for a cheap pump 12 ga. I was about to take home the Remington 870 Express, but then saw this gun. I did some research online, and read nothing but good reviews on it. Several people even said they love their 870, but preferred the PA-08 over it.

I went ahead and bought it after looking at it again before the sale ended. I took the gun apart the next evening. I'm very pleased with the fit and finish, and in my opinion it is much better than the 870 Express (more than worth the extra $30). So far I can see why several people said it is the best 12 ga under $400.

I haven't had a chance to fire it yet, and was just curious if anyone else has any experience with it in the field.

No personal experience with Weatherby but have never heard anything bad about them. Most pumps are pretty good any way, it is really hard to screw one up unless you don't take care of it. Best of luck.

As with anything, folks are partial to what they are familiar with. With shotguns, I favor Remington. Been shooting a 870 that dad bought in 1961 without a problem. Of course, I've progressed to both 1100 and 1187 semi's. That's just my preference.

The real fact are these. Are you satisfied with the gun? Seems so based on your post. Does it function properly and hit what you are aiming at? Not yet determined.

Yes the Weatherby is a good gun. It's how you handle it in the field which makes it a great gun. I have an Ruger M77 that was my HS graduation gift. This gun has been beat up, stratched but still shoots straight. Point is, it's not the gun, but what you bring back to table.

Cool Weatherby shotguns

I've had a Weatherby Patrician pump 12 ga. for years. It's the smoothest pump I've ever used. Chrome lined barrel, gold trigger, vent rib and an outstanding stock. Weatherby is high quality.

Cool Shotguns and STOP IT!

Stop it I tell you, some of have to work you know and all this talk about shotguns keeps taking back to my last visit to Orvis in Butthead. Man! You talk about some shotguns! No, they would not do to toss in the back of truck or keep next the farmhouse back door for raiders of the chicken coop ................... but SSSWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEETTTT! I wonder if all the droolling I did caused any corrosion.

But back on point, briefly, Weatherby is a great firearms company and they have never made anything less than great. On the other hand, as Huntfish pointed out, Ruger makes some of the sturdiest and simply constructed weapons out there. Go all stainless and synthethic and you can drop it in the creek for a week, pick it out, re-load, and go hunting.

Now I really gotta work.

JK,
Don't see many stainless shotguns out there except for the Mariner versions. Don't get fooled though, stainless will rust and pit if not cleaned. Seen many a SS rifles return from a coastal hunt with rust.
