Default Birmingham Southern College

My wife and son just returned from visiting Birmingham Southern College. My wife says my son liked it a lot.

Is anybody here an alum or student parent that my son could speak to about college life there?

I have been there. Very nice looking campus some of the buildings are really nice looking inside and out. Don't know anything about the academics, sorry. Oh the campus doesn't appear to be on the best side of town if you know what I mean. Hope this helps.

BSC grad here from eons ago.

Can't tell you much about it now.

I wouldn't have a problem sending my kids there.
The area of town it's in is not good ,but security is pretty tight on campus.

Used to have a great reputation with the Medical and Dental School at UAB.Generally speaking the class sizes were much smaller than at larger schools, and the professors actually taught their own classes instead of pawning that off on grad assistants.

I considered it a great environment for learning.

My son is a freshman there playing football for the school. Here's what I can tell you.

On the Forbes ranking of America's best colleges it is a next door neighbor to Georgia Tech. So academically it is a very good school. The class sizes are small and the teachers take an active interest in their students. It has a "graduate in 4 years" guarantee. In other words, if you work with them and follow their advice, they guarantee you will graduate in 4 years. I don't know what your son intends to do for a career, but mine wants to become a high school teacher and that program has a 100% placement rate with their graduates.

As far as the physical plant goes, it has some of the best facilities and is one of the best maintained campuses I have ever been on.

There is a JV game at the stadium there this coming Sunday at 1:00 for which no admission is charged. I would suggest that you come catch the game and take a look for yourself.
