The Rabun Chapter of Trout Unlimited invites you to the 2011 Rabun Rendezvous!
When: Saturday, Jan 22, 2011 Rendezvous Speaker: Kyle Burrell, Rabunite and Trout Fishing Guide in Georgia and Wyoming Where: The “NEW” Dillard House Conference Center located behind the Dillard House in Dillard, Georgia. Who: Everyone interested in protecting our cold-water resources, including their families, friends, and all who love clean cold streams, trout, and trout fishing. Social: About 5 o’clock PM folks will start gathering to “pick the pig” and enjoy the rocking chairs on the porch of the Conference Center. There will be snack trays of cheeses, crackers, veggies with dips, and fruits. Soft drinks and ice will be available. If you want something stronger, better bring it yourself. There will be a fire inside to warm your buns. The Foxfire Boys (as seen in the Chattooga River episode of TUTV’s “On The Rise”) will generously provide their ‘down home’ style of bluegrass picking and singing for your musical entertainment. The large screen TV will be showing the Rabunites trout fishing some of their favorite ‘secret spots’. This will be the ideal time to be looking over the raffle and silent auction items. Dinner: Fish, chicken, and pork with all the side dishes and desserts that have made the Dillard House so famous, will be served about 6:30. It is a serve yourself buffet, so you will not leave hungry. After dinner: A short program, annual awards, and awarding of door prizes, raffle & auction items. Cost: $30 for adults and $25 for youth of 15 and under. Cash, personal checks are fine, we also accept VISA & MasterCard credit cards. We don’t do advanced tickets or reservation; just pay at the door. The 2010 Rabun Rendezvous provided funds for the following ■Georgia Trout Camp for youth ■Sponsorship of student interns working in NE GA fisheries with the GA WRD and the USFS ■Sponsoring two youngsters attending the GA Trout Camp ■Financial support of the GA DNR Smithgall Woods Conservation Education Program ■Georgia “Back-the-Brookie” Program ■Kid’s Fishing Events at Black Rock Mountain State Park (GA DNR) & Tallulah River (USFS) ■Stekoa Creek clean-up day ■In-stream habitat improvement workday with USFS on a local brook trout stream ■Fly Fishing for Vets Wounded Warriors Program ■Stop I-3 Coalition ■Georgia Wildlife Federation’s Camo Coalition ■National TU’s “First Cast”, “Embrace-A-Stream”, & “Back-the-Brookie” Programs ■Design of Rabun TU’s award winning website ■Trout Magazine subscriptions to all school & public libraries and 3 state parks in Rabun County For more information, visit www.rabuntu.org. My wife and I look forward to this event each year. We're not members of the Rabun chapter, yet feel very welcome and always have a good time. I saw a few NGTOers last year, and a few of the board members. Hope to see you folks again. Hey Cannon, maybe this will be the year we win one of those Chattooga maps...

I went to this last year and had the best time. It was the day of the SS Estrogen float trip on the Tuck. After the float trip we all headed to RR to pick the pig. GREAT FOOD! The next morning I fished Dukes with couple of friends in the rain. Fishing & Food, can't think of a better combination than that. You newbies should go check it out.

The Rabun Rendezvous is THE trout fishing cultural event of the year! I've only missed one in their 24 years and that's because I was in Argentina. This year I planned my Argentina trip around the Rendezvous. See you there!

"Rabun" and "cultural event" in the same sentence? That's pushin' reality! 8-)
But yes, this is "the event" and the funds the Rabunites raise go to their catalog of programs they support helping keep the water clean and the fish healthy. But I do have one question about lodging: Does the Dillard House have any special rates for the event? Thanks! ---JCK--- |

The Dillard House has set special rates for rooms starting at $49 (plus tax) for those that call and tell them you’re attending the Trout Unlimited Rabun Rendezvous. Call: 706-746-5348 or Toll Free 1-800-541-0671
You must say you are there with Trout Unlimited to get the special rate. Pat Hopton Rabun Chapter Vice Chair www.rabuntu.org |
