Default Bighorn River

Four of us flew into Billings and drove over to Ft. Smith. The river was running about four times the normal level for that time of year, but the fishing was awesome.

We are going back next year. Montana is all that I had hoped for.

One of our group made a slide show and it is a a decent sample of our trip.

Steve, thanks for the video. I have a love/hate relationship with the Bighorn, but gotta love the numbers and size of the fish. Ft. Smith though is challenge. Bring your "bar" with you or go without. Except Pollys Place (good for what it is) food challenged. Where did you stay? Last trip rented a couple of "cabins" just outside of town that worked well with full kitchen. IMO the best river out west to rent and row your own boat and not be controlled by the normal guide schedule.

We did a package deal with Bighorn Anglers, who put us up in a two bedroom house in town.

Rowing while we were there was not for the beginner, as the river was putting through at 10,000 fps. Pulling in at crowded ramps at the end of a run was an adventure even for guys doing that for a living. I'm anxious to go back and see the river at the normal summer/fall level of 2,500 fps.
