Default Flat Back Canoe & Motor for Sale

For Sale: Vintage Square Stern Canoe and Outboard Motor. You can buy one or the other, or both! I will post it here for a week or two and then move to Craigslist if there are no takers.

Canoe

I have an old 17 foot aluminum flat back canoe that I just do not use anymore, and thus I am posting it here for sale. The boat was built back in the 70's I believe and has served me well. The boat does not leak and is solid as a rock. I did replace the original wood transom years ago with some pressure treated wood. If I recall, the boat is rated for a 1,000 pound load and can take up to a 5 horse motor. Also, I have some oars and a plastic drop in center seat that I will throw in with the deal. The boat is currently registered and expires in March 2012.

Asking $225 OBO for the boat and you must come to my place in Kennesaw to pick up. .

Motor

Next up is the motor that came with the boat. It is an old Sears motor that pre-dates the Gamefisher series. It is old and ran great the last time I started it up. And it pushed the above canoe with authority! Asking $100 OBO for the motor. Like the boat, you must come to my place in Kennesaw to pick this up.

No clue man! Easy enough to lift I guess, but I can assure you that there is not an ounce of aluminum on this thing!

You forgot to mention that it's Hooch Worthy. That little motor pushed Buck and i to McGinnis from Abbots. It's got some great Fish Mojo too.

Boat looks like it weighs a ton. Any idea of its dry weight?

No clue on the actual weight. But I am not going to lie; it is heavy. This is a big heavy duty canoe that will outlive us all, not one of those light weight plastic things.

And yes, this canoe has seen everything from mountain lakes, to running up and down the Hooch, to even a few multi-day camping trips in the Okfenokee Swamp! I think the load carrying capacity of this boat is what makes it so outstanding. It can carry two folks and a lot of gear to boot. BTW, if you have ever seen that PBS documentary about the guy who built that cabin up in Alaska; this is the same model boat he had in that film.

I'll tell you this it weighs more than a loaf of bread.

All kidding aside, I've got a 3.3 Mercury and it weighs in about 25-30 lbs. I doubt if this motor is much more. I've got basically the same set up, although mine is not aluminum.

It's a great Hooch rig that you'll be hard pressed to pick up for this price, lord knows I've got more than what Buck is asking in mine.

I'm new to canoes and am wondering how stable it is. Looks pretty wide in the mid section. Reason I ask is I'm wondering if it's suitable for my 8 and 6 year old boys to fish in a lake together.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
JScott

It does have a width stance and is very stable for a canoe. With the center drop in seat I have, I put both my boys in this boat and never had a problem.

PS: you could buy a set of those foam outriggers for canoes that Cabelas sells and you would never be able to flip it over.
