Default Hooch Farewell Tour

Since I'll be moving to Florida this coming Sunday I made time to get out on the Hooch and do a little fishing.

Thanks to the Fly Fishing for Vets event I caught a few at Paces on Saturday afternoon. Nothing special but the weather and the fact that most people don't believe you when you tell them you catch trout ITP.

Did a little wading below Settles on Sunday morning and brought a few little browns and a couple rainbows to hand. Again nothing special but the weather and the scenery. I did see the guys from Columbus in the parking lot after they tested their PFD's. Its always nice to meet people on the river and later when you see their posts you can say "I know that guy."

Went back with my kayak yesterday and found someone being creative with the PROM?

Paddled up to my favorite spot and found things were kinda slow so I moved down a little and got out the boat to stretch my legs. Casted my bobtailed olive bugger on a sink tip into this hole and caught a rainbow. And then another, and another. It was what you called "catching". After relocating over twenty rainbows and a couple browns out of this hole in less than 30 minutes I needed a break. So I got back in the boat and started drifting downstream with a refreshment. (Sorry for not posting pics of all these fish, but the camera was in the boat and I've already given enough clues for the people that have fished this area with me before to figure out where this was.)

After getting refreshed I started spanking the bank with the same bugger and pulled this guy out of a pile of stumps. I caught quite a few more fish after this one, but this was my favorite fish of the day.

I know it isn't big, but it's stream born. And the average size is getting bigger in this area. (Real fins look freaky after seeing so many stockers.)

I'm going to miss the Hooch. But I think the speckled trout and redfish in the Mosquito Lagoon will ease the pain. Hopefully I'll be posting reports in the "Beyond Georgia" forum in the near future.

It is nice to see how many 10-12" wild browns are in that area. Too bad you want be there when they are 16-18".

Nice report, and good luck with the move.

We are going to miss you Mike, but somebody has to go down there to keep Tommy King from burning the place to the ground!

We hope your move to the NGTO South Annex goes smoothly. You've been a fine contributor and we'll look forward to your tales of the salt.

Mike, I sincerely hope you enjoy Florida as much as I did several years ago. I got mah biggest bass (14lbs 3 oz) out of a pond/lake between mah apartment complex in Orlando an' Innernashunal Golf Course. You are gonna fully enjoy yerse'f in the Sunshine State. You'll no doubt miss the trout fishin' here, but mah chere, the fishin' you're gonna be gittin' into in Mosquito Lagoon is gonna help you ferget 'bout us purty quickly.

Now, go an' git you a Gheenoe from Pugar Gheen in Titusville! At the very least, you need yerse'f an "NMZ!"

Keep in touch with us here.

Tight lines, mah friend!

Darn Mike when I was talking with you at the Fishing for Vets day you mentioned something about heading down to Florida, but I thought it was just for a fishing trip or a family visit.

If you moving anywhere near Tommy King, I know he will be ecstatic to have a Georgia / NGTO brother down his way to fish with.

I wish you and your family the best of luck down there and we all will be looking forward to all you sickening Saltwater reports.
