Yep, got to hit that sweet spot and turn left immediately in order to avoid the center rock.....

A good many powered boats make the run over the rapids, but you have to know where to hit the trough of water to the right (going north) of the center of the rock formation. There are a few guys with pretty small outboards who do it, there's a guy with a semi-V and another with a Gehonee and a dog or two.

John Scalley makes the drift down with clients fairly regularly. He could probably tell you more about the drift from the dam to Abbotts better than anyone I know.

FM. . . you an' UncleJesse are a-makin' me wanna try an' build a titanium Gheenoe jes' so as I can get up above that barrier on a more reg'lar basis. I'll say this though, that barrier is only the first obstacle to overcome when you git nawth of Shakerag Rock. That's some tricky water up that way!

Ennyways, I'm off to Blue Ridge this weekend. Somebody on the fam'ly decided to git a cabin fer the weekend an' they invited Meaux an' me along! (I LOVE mah in-laws!)

Before you make the attempt, I advise you to wade the top end above the falls. You can cross the whole length, but don't do it if you are not wader savy. One little off balance step, and you'll go sliding off......
