Default Report from the Mitten State

We've had GA like heat for almost two weeks and I'm about to rip my hair out. Luckily the fishing has been really good...........

Looks like a great summer up north for smallies.
When you gonna post those midnight big brown trips? We need some 'waked' mouse stories.

You would have to post this today... Was regretting earlier probably not being able to get up to Port Austin to fish this Summer & then started thinking about fishing years ago on my beloved Flat River. Opened Grey's an there was an article about pheasant hunting in the Thumb. Came down to my PC and there was your post. Please tell me that you are hunting and fishing up there at every opportunity!

I sure am....its why I chose Grand Rapids....I can shoot woodcock and grouse 45 mins from my house and catch trout/steelhead/bass/pike and a host of other fish 10-15 mins away. This allows me to get out after work a couple times a week in addition to my normal weekend stuff. I'm usually out at least 3 times per week year round, and 4-5 times when things are going strong.

At my old home on the Flat River north of Lowell, we had the coolest thing. You could launch your canoe, float a few miles down the river, paddle up a stream below a small dam, portage across, paddle across a beautiful impoundment lake, portage over another dam, and then float right back home some miles back down the river! I spent many a happy day in my youth doing that route, sometimes camping, sometimes just making a day of it. We had woodcocks, grouse, and ducks in the sloughs by the river. And if you kept your eye sharp, you might find beer stashed by partiers that planned to return later with their "girlfriends"...

I live a short ways from the Flat and although I havent fished it as much as I should I've fished it enough to have caught some nice smallies and was sawed off a month or so ago by one heck of pike right below the **** in Lowell! Small world.......
